“And it has been
of a year.
I have worn
under my sleeves,
on my thighs,
running down my cheeks.
This is what
looks like, my dear.”—Michelle K., It Has Been One Hell of a Year (via awelltraveledwoman)
“Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.”— Hermann Hesse (via thatkindofwoman)
“Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.”—Mary Anne Radmacher (via thatkindofwoman)
I find it profoundly complex to figure out how to practically balance what it means to have a life free from anxiety yet to still care enough to live with wisdom by planning. Opportunities are valuable and self-application is important. I’m in constant limbo trying to understand if there’s a tangible way to have peace without apathy—to find the right measure between flippancy and urgency; complacency and drive.
“I hope our faith is making us better, and not worse. I don’t mean becoming a ‘nice guy.’ I don’t mean financially or intellectually or politically. I mean: more well-rounded, thoughtful, nuanced, with depth, growing in grace, an eye to see all angles, a wider vision, a heart that cares, and hands that move into the places that no one else will go.
Otherwise, it’s not a faith worth having, and not the one Jesus rose again for.”—J.S. Park, from this post (via risingofthesun)
“Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You cannot get there by bus, only by hard work, risking and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you will discover will be wonderful; yourself.”—Alan Alda (via thatkindofwoman)
“I want in fact more of you. In my mind I am dressing you with light; I am wrapping you up in blankets of complete acceptance and then I give myself to you. I long for you; I who usually long without longing, as though I am unconscious and absorbed in neutrality and apathy, really, utterly long for every bit of you.”—Franz Kafka (via thatkindofwoman)
“I’ve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They…
“Some people think only intellect counts: knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion, and empathy.”—Dean Koontz (via thatkindofwoman)
“I don’t know where you are these days, what’s broken down and what’s beautiful in your life this season. I don’t know if this is a season of sweetness or one of sadness. But I’m learning that neither last forever. There will, I’m sure, be something that invades this current loveliness. That’s how life is. It won’t be sweet forever. But it won’t be bitter forever either. If everywhere you look these days, it’s wintery, desolate, lonely, practice believing in springtime. It always, always comes, even though on days like today it’s nearly impossible to imagine, ground frozen, trees bare and spiky. New life will spring from this same ground. This season will end, and something entirely new will follow it.”—Bittersweet // Shauna Niequist (via nuancesandanomalies)
Be who you are and not who the world wants you to be. Not who you think you should be. Be your beautiful collage of humanity. Be you loud, proud, and brave.
You are a star shining in this world. Do not get tangled up in comparing your light and brightness to that of the other stars. We all shine. We all have light that the world needs. We all add brightness and beauty.
Be who you are. For who you are is worthy, beautiful, significant. Who you are is vital. Who you are is a story we all need written.
You are loved. You are necessary. You are radiant.
Shine in your way. In your style.
Shine bright and true in this life you’ve been given.
